About the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI)
The Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) is a professional association that assesses the quality of its members, maintains a list of members with suitable language skills and technical expertise, and can hold its members to account in the event of complaints.
The ITI was founded in 1986 as the only independent professional association of practising translators and interpreters in the United Kingdom. It is now one of the primary sources of information on translation and interpreting services to government, industry, the media and the general public. With its aim of promoting the highest standards in translation and interpreting, the ITI offers guidance and advice not only to those who offer language services but also to their customers.
ITI members are required to abide by a Code of Professional Conduct. Contracts are made directly between the client and the provider, and it is important that all terms and conditions of work be understood and agreed prior to placing an order. The ITI is not responsible for disputes arising between its members and their clients, but will on request assist in arbitration in the event of a dispute.
